I've studied Greek history and Mythology since ... forever, really. My mother was a professor in Athens ... I love the two greats; The Iliad and The Odyssey. I like reading the works of other philosophers and psychologists, too, like Freud ... his work on dreams is very interesting ... and I guess i'm guilty of dabbling into other ... mmm, "works of literature", too, like memoirs and normal poetry and ... romance novels.

It was a futile effort, Greece reminded himself once more- no longer were the days of the feverous worship of his gods by the white-draped people of his country; reduced those gods were to text books and drawn-out narratives poking and prodding at every concept and comma of his written myths, Heracles still felt that somehow, they could again grant him their divine gifts once more.
But, he thought as he adjusted his position from sitting up to lying on the ground, hip taking most of his weight and already blushing a sore kind of feeling, he could try, at least, to receive whatever there was to be had. He took a long, deep breath, concentrating on only the movement of his lungs, his chest- fixing himself not on the outside world but within and beyond, trying with a sort of sedentary fervor to transcend being into the godly realm of pure feeling- to be touched by the goddess of wisdom as he had when he was still tiny, would be enough, he reasoned. To lay his eyes on the pure light of the sun god, perhaps- to be not human but something different yet the same, purer perhaps...
Insight, he reminded himself, feeling the round wood beads of his necklace on the slope of skin between his neck and shoulder, the whispered shape of the cross on the clean white of his shirt. He needed to know, for whatever reason, what it all meant. War was distressing enough, and he knew that from experience- but this time around, with the conflicts escalating and things overfilling the cupped palm of measure and control, the insightful part of him sought out answers, and so, he'd come to receive them.
And yet, as he expected and yet didn't- the gods stayed silent.
